Ntungamo Health Training Institute

Background and introduction


Ntungamo Health Training Institute was established by Ntungamo District Local Government in 2011 to train Nurses and Midwives programs and started in Itojo Hospital.

The school was later relocated to Nyarutuntu campus located in Keijengye cell, Nyaburiza Parish, Nyarutuntu Sub County, Ruhaama County at the former Ruhaama Saza Headquarters along Ntungamo – Mirama Hills (9kms).

The Institute was given a 2 year provisional licence No. ME/VOC/138 on 30th May 2013 to operate with capacity of 70 students. Later the Institute was issued a certificate of registration No. MOES/BTVET/199 to operate a Health Training Institute with capacity not exceeding 300 students.

On 12th May 2019, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the President of Republic of Uganda visited the school at its main campus Nyarutuntu and directed that the school be taken over by Government. Following this directive, the Institute is a Public Nursing school under Ministry of Education and Sports.


Governance
The Institute is run by a Governing Council appointed from time to time following the guidance of Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 as amended 2006
